Many years ago I dressed up as a pirate for Halloween. Yes, this is what I wore to work that day.Friday, October 31, 2008

The three witches
"Double, double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble." (from Shakespeare's Macbeth)
No, this isn't witches brew but some could say it is a magic potion. It's chicken soup cooked over an open fire at the Hay Creek Apple Festival in Morgantown, PA. Chicken soup - good for the soul, good for what ails you.
We bought some of the soup to take home and it was delicious.

When the world was young . . .
Note the 3-volume encyclopedia from the 1860's. How many volumes does it take to contain the world of knowledge today? The last set of encyclopedias I had growing up must have had close to 30 volumes and was purchased from a door-to-door salesman. When was the last time you saw one of those? Fuller Brush anyone? Avon calling?

Old time manufacturing
This is how brooms were made before mass production. With the economy in a slump, maybe we'll be heading back to this way of doing things.

Sign for the times . . .
With the economy in turmoil, more people may return to hunting for their food. Squirrel, anyone?

Dipping into the oldies . . .
So, we were driving from Inverness to Aberdeen, Scotland, when we saw a sign for the Glenlivet Distillery. We made a sharp left and as we were winding around the pastures, in the middle of nowhere we found a telephone booth. There must have been a need for one if there was one there but who uses it and how often? This was a few years ago so I wonder if it is even there still? Hmmmm . . . guess we need to make another trip to Scotland to check it out.
