Walking stick

I haven't seen one of these guys in real life for a long, long time.  I was at a family reunion at a local park and he was discovered walking up a potato chip bag on one of the food tables in the covered pavilion.  Not sure where he came from.  We moved him onto a bush and this is where I took his photo.  You can't see it in this photo but he has little pincher thing on his tail end like an earwig does.  I'll have to pull out the bug books and look him up.

First potato crop . . .

Following the plans of my daughter, I grew potatoes in a pot.  This was my first attempt.  If they taste ok, then I'll try it again next year.

No seeds for me . . .

Not sure what kind of caterpillars these are but they liked to eat holes in to the seed pods of the flowers and ate the insides so I was unable to collect any seeds to plant for next year.

Bees to nectar

Some of the bees in our yard are lazy and instead of getting nectar from flowers they go after the sugar water in the hummingbird feeders.  They drink in so much that they go into a sugar coma.

Death becomes art . . .

Even as it is dying, this flower has an artistic quality to it.

Cake

After we got back from our wedding / honeymoon in Hawaii, we celebrated with friends and family by have a Just Maui'd party.  This is the cake.  I didn't make it (for a change) but I did design it.  It was delicious!

Another mystery . . .

Every time I set these bunnies back up, when I come out the next day, they are laying on their sides.

And, around the corner . . .

On the other side of the house where our rain barrel is located, another tomato plant is growing.  Again, must have been a good seed from the compost bin.

Where did all the tomatoes come from?

I didn't plant any tomatoes in the garden this year but look what came up.  Guess the seeds survived being in the compost bin.

Baby blankets

Found a great deal on baby yarn so I made three baby blankets this summer. Now to wrap and distribute them.

Arden Fairies

What struck me about these kids is that they looked elfin or fairy like.  There were more kids in the family than just these three.  Not sure how many there were in total and from what I saw, they all looked like the mother - red hair, freckles, blue eyes.
